Dressing Room Chronicles: Ava & Viv by Target

When Target announced they were bringing out a new Plus sized line, all the curvy girls went crazy. I on the other hand heard about the line through a Plus Size blogger (Chasity Garner) that I've been following for a while now. I even had the liberty to check out a few of the images that they had for the release party presented by Target online on Instagram. I was impressed by the patterns used and the styles created for curvy girls, but I wasn't too impressed enough to get up and go try items on when they arrived in stores. Since I've started doing "Dressing Room Chronicles" and it's becoming a big success for me, I figured that I could get a few suggestions from my followers on which line to review next. One of my most involved followers (Danielle aka @brokenlevee) suggested that I went to check out the Ava and Viv plus line at Target, so I did. Let's just say I grabbed one of everything that I liked on display at my local Target. The fitting room lady ended up giving me 3 cards with the number of items that I had, it was so funny. She told me, "I don't care how many items you take in with you, just bring them all back!" I chuckled and told her that I would, I was even nice enough to put all of the items back on the racks for her after trying everything on...

Before, I get into the nitty-gritty about the items in particular... I want to show you exactly what I tried on from the website (well minus a couple of sweaters), these images aren't mine I don't claim the rights to them at all. I'm showing you them from the Target website, then I'll show you a few that I tried on for myself so that you can see how I liked them or didn't like them. Here's the line up:

First of all, these items range in cost from $24.99 to $34.99! I don't think I would've purchased any of these items at any of the prices listed on the tags, first hand. I tried on the looks to try to over look the price, then looked at the tag and was instantly turned off by majority of the items. I guess because it takes more fabric to create each item they basically are charging double the price of an average person's clothing? I have no clue but its outrageously priced, if they go on sale I'd be willing to buy. I would have a better chance going to JoAnn's to get fabric and thread to make my own items at a lower price. Before I go into more detail here's a few of the images I took of me wearing a few of the items you see listed above:

Plus Size short Denim Dress - Size X $29.99

Plus Size Ankle Pants - Size 16 $29.99

Plus Size maxi Skirt - Size XX $24.99

Plus Size ankle Pants - Size 16 $29.99

Quarter Sleeve Sweater - Size X $25.99

Plus Size woven Blouse - Size XX $24.99

Honestly, there are a few things that I do and don't like about this brand. I do like the fact that Target has finally listened to consumers who wanted to see something plus sized for women who can't fit average sized clothing. I do also like that the creator's tried to give a variety of pieces that can accommodate consumers if they are looking for a specific item oppose to an entire outfit/look. I like the fact that you can possibly mix and match items you already have in your closet with this line. I suggest buying a piece and playing with other items you may have at home! I don't like the fact that all of the clothes aren't fun, the colors are kinda grandma-esque and not really fitting for a woman my age. The clothes are great to work for work or a day out on the beach/picnic, but if I wanted to put on something to catch someone's eye, it totally isn't working for me. Majority of the pieces were hideous on me, my hips poked out & my height made the maxi material look short (and not long how it's supposed to be) in a lot of the dresses/skirts I tried on. The pants were either too tight for me or too lose because I'm at the cusp of plus and regular Large/XL sized clothing I have no clue how this line can reach other women of the same size. I'm thinking that this line is along the "Lane Bryant" type of fashion, so it's not 100% bad, but like I said it's not my style. I think it would work for a shorter women or women who wear 2X and up. The only items I'd walk out with (if I really needed them) would probably be the Woven Blouse and the Denim Dress because those can be altered or played with, throw on the perfect shoes and accessories and you're winning.

Let me warn you, all of the Target stores have certain items from this line in store. Which means, you can find some of the items I've tried on but there's much more that I didn't get to see in store that was displayed online. I did check Target's website and found the "Ava and Viv" shop link. I saw a few items that I would've like to try on but couldn't since they weren't in store. I really didn't have the motivation to check out another Target based on the fact that I didn't have much success trying on this line so I decided to post what I did want to try on but couldn't because it wasn't in store:

I love the look of the joggers and the jumpsuit more than anything and couldn't try them on. I'm okay with not trying them on either to be honest. I can't wait to see how this line continues to evolve. As long as Target and the creators of this line are open to feedback and are willing to make changes, I can see this line developing into something great. Don't take my word based on how these looks looked on me, go out and try on the line yourself because what I don't look good in might look "fire" on you.

Thanks again for reading, thank you so much for all of your continued support!

Until next time ladies...

aka Nakeia Danielle
