There's nothing more cooler than trendsetting, but with that comes inspiration from some of the latest trends. One of those trends happens to be Crop Tops! Very cute shirts that are cropped to show off your waistline. I love this trend and I'm actually glad that one of my followers asked me to write about how to wear one.
To be honest I've never in evers have wanted to try on anything cropped, for the simple fact that I myself don't like the midsection of my body... I don't hate it because I can always do my thing with shape wear and such, but honestly I don't see myself wearing anything cropped. I honestly haven't tried it at all until the follower made the request that I do this blog. I don't care about other people's opinion, I just have this uplifting image of myself, so to have flaws wearing crops I don't think so! Listen, I do not knock anyone who does whether they have a Coke bottle shape or not... If it makes you look good girl go for it! For me, it's just not a good look... I guess that's a plus being in a Plus Size world, you know what you can make work for you and you have the confidence to wear it, or you have sense enough to say, "I won't wear this today... Maybe in some other lifetime!" Haha.
Anywhoo, in a plus size world alot of women are opinionated about this topic. Well a ton of stereotypical people would shun anyone who they think shouldn't wear specific things! "Oh no she can't wear that her fat is showing", "Why couldn't she wear a full shirt?", they say... I'm totally not hear for that. If you want to wear whatever, then hey I say do it anyway... At the end of the day someone will be talking about you, good or bad, make it worth while! Lets get back to the main focus...
To wear a crop top I believe it depends on your stomach...
If you do have flaws I suggest a cincher/shapewear that will cover up the rolls in your waistline but it's whatever you prefer. I say the smoother the better if you are wearing anything bodycon on the bottom... For the top it will always consist of your breast or top of your body! The area that will show in between your top and waistline depends on how much skin you want to show, that skin should be a flat area of your stomach or the area you would consider "Flawless"... Here's a few images to show you exactly what I am talking about:

These ladies are perfect examples of plus size women who can pull off the look. Their mid-sections are flat which means they can wear cropped or open tops above their belly buttons or below their busts.
If you have rolls like me, it's pretty hard to perfect this look. Hence the reason I DO NOT WEAR CROP TOPS! I took the liberty of taking a picture to show you why...

Hopefully my gut issues can be corrected once I start waist training... But for any of you asking, with a shaper you can also pull this off by cinching your waistline, wearing the bottom portion of your outfit (skirt, high waist pants, etc.) over the shaper. The shaper will smooth out the rolls... Make sure the shapewear isn't showing or there goes the look... The next step would be to leave some space for your skin to show before the bust line! Then once you put the top on then you can determine where you want the crop to go, whether its right under your breasts or over the bust... Unfortunately like alot of women, right under the bust there may be a roll! So in that case you might want to try a different crop top, not the tight fitted one, maybe the loose one may help! I guess wearing crop tops come with the territory! If you have the body/stomach for it I say go right ahead girl... Strut your stuff! If you don't have the body for it then you make it work for you with a shaper or just don't wear it... Set your own trends! Wear a crop top and make it look good or go out and buy a MuMu and make it look good. Do whatever you feel necessary to make yourself look and feel good! Hope this blog can help out with any of your crop top issues! Please feel free to leave a comment or leave some love below... Thanks for reading! Until next time Vixens...

That was pretty cool of you to tackle the topic even though it's a trend you don't participate in. Even though I'm a fairly trim size 6, i don't think i would look good in a crop top either. But like the pics show, wearing a crop top is really a matter of having the right attitude and confidence.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% on this. Perfect example of why I wrote the blog to begin with! :-)
DeleteI love too how you broke the topic of crop tops! I started wearing them just this past summer. I didn't think I could get away with wearing them, low and behold I love them. I just wore one I purchased from forever 21 for $7. It's just very important as plus size we look classy and not thrown away. My fav woman to see in crop is @garnerstyle featured above. She does it so well!!!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree with you GarnerStyle does her thing in the plus size world! Thanks for reading I appreciate it! :-)
