Event: Tinka's Closet Model Casting Call

As a plus sized woman I particularly find it very very hard to shop in regular stores. Normally I am the woman who has to go out and hunt like an animal for certain outfits or particular items that accentuate my body in a formal way. Typically I'd head on over to a local Rainbow or DOTS to see if they have anything and 9 times out of 10 they do but it's for the essential closet needs. Now if you are looking for something a step up in fashion, you can hit up a boutique! Orlando has a very bad stigma in the realm of boutiques, I am not going to lie at all. Some of the boutique's I've seen have been like setup as a warehouse or like a store the owner decided to throw together just for women to seek out a fashionable style. Not only that, if you've been on the club scene in Orlando you always see women wearing the same thing another woman wears. I've been out with my home girl and we spot these dresses and go to each other, "Oop, girl those are boutique dresses and they are the same!" It's just totally not a good look at all to be honest. Today I chose to go to Tinka's Closet with no biased thoughts or anything at all. I went with a clear mind and came out with a whole new perception of boutiques...

The event I decided to attend was "Tinka's Closet Model Casting Call" that I was promoting on my Instagram page for a couple of weeks or so for a local boutique in Central Florida. At first I was debating with myself to go because usually I ask for someone to go with me but that didn't happen. So I decided to get dressed, curl my hair and step out! My intentions were to go and get information about the business and also see a few items they had for plus sized women in the store. I wasn't going to try out for the casting call or anything. I walked in and my initial thought was "OMG this place is beautiful!" When I say I was amazed at how perfectly decorated this boutique was I am not exaggerating. It's like stepping into a pretty pink gallery for women only! Everything was organized and neat. They had finger food and beautiful cupcakes with your choice of a nice glass of sweet Moscato, sweet red wine, or a bottle of nice cold spring water. Instead of diving into the food I decided to take a peek at the clothing and then introduce myself to the leading lady "Trina" who was sitting pretty amongst her friends and a couple of other judges. I went up to the table to introduce myself as Danii and told her that I was a blogger.

She asked my instagram name and I replied the #fatshionvixen! She lit up with a smile immediately and thanked me for taking the time to respond to some of the questions that a lot of the ladies ask on their Instagram business page, but she gets busy and can't respond in a timely fashion. Tinka also thanked me for coming out, took a few pictures with her and  and also had her manager Lamara show me around the store. I got the change to speak with Lamara about the boutique and also got to try on one of their signature Cur've stomach cinchers!

So this waist cincher OMG! Okay so lemme tell yall when I put it on.... LAWD! Look at the before and after below first....

I have love handles and a gut for days under my peplum shirt, typically I wouldn't care... LMAO! But after trying on the cincher it took my waist in, held all my stomach in and straightened my posture 100%. Tinka's Closet has a number of different cinchers however this one is a double. You clasp the first section around your waist and the second part you zip up the outer mesh part to bring the cincher in together. The one I tried on is size #403: I'm in between the size of Large and X-Large for my shirt size so if you are the same this one should fit you nicely! This Curv'e waist cincher is priced at $77. It's a bit pricey but I have every intention on going back to get one in my size!

After trying on the Cur've waist cincher with Lamara I spoke with a few of the ladies about the items they tried on or viewed in the boutique. I noticed they only have 2 sections for plus size, it wasn't bad at all they had alot of styles to choose from. They also sell accessories and some shoes even though they only specialize in clothing. One of the ladies stated that the items in store are made to be form fitting so if women are going to wear the items they would have to be aware that it shows off a lot of their curves. Another woman expressed that there were plus sized items she liked in particular on instagram but she didn't see them in store, I asked Lamara a few questions about shipments and also if there's items posted on Instagram and they weren't in store could they get more or how can someone make sure they get the item they want. Lamara expressed that the items the boutique receive in plus size go FAST! Once you see the items posted on Instagram you must call in or either come to the store to get it immediately. Lamara also told me shipments come in every Thursday so it's best to come in on the days the clothing is delivered. They have a limited amount of items in order for you not to be seen in the same clothing as someone else, definite plus. I didn't get to try on any of the clothing, but told Lamara that I would be back sometime next week. Maybe I'll get the chance to try some things on!

When I came to the event my intention was not to model at all. I wanted to come in and get a feel for the store and get more information to blog about Tinka's Closet, however that all changed when one of the ladies who was shopping around told me to go for it. You never know what opportunities can happen for you. So I sucked it up and tried it out. Many models came out, all of the ladies had different shapes, sizes, and styles! I had so much fun telling them why I wanted to be a model (which I didn't just told them someone convinced me, we laughed together) and when I walked to strut my stuff! Took 3 images at the end, it was so fun. If I had the chance I'd do it all over again. I truly enjoyed myself!

Not only did I enter into the model casting, I went out of the box and came to the event by myself, and I've changed my perception about boutiques 100% by attending this beautiful event. Thank you so much Tinka for the opportunity! Thanks for reading! Until next time...
